Third Day Battlefield

The third day fight started very early as Union troops on Culp’s Hill moved to retake the breastworks the confederates had taken the night before.  The confederates being driven away was a foreshadow of what was to come.  After an hour long artillery exchange, the 15,000 men of Pickett, Pettigrew, and Pender’s Divisions started their mile charge across the fields between Seminary and Cemetery Ridge as the JEB Stuarts looked for opportunities to attack the Union rear.  The last fighting at Gettysburg occurred late in the day with an ill-fated Union cavalry charge on the confederate right flank near Big Round Top.
