East Cemetery Hill

East Cemetery Hill was the rallying point for the defeated Union army on the evening of the first day for the First and Eleventh Corps.  General Robert E Lee’s orders to try and take the hill were not carried out.  My morning it was a well protected artillery position guarded by the Eleventh Corps.    At dusk, (July 2nd) Union forces repelled a Confederate assault that reached the crest of East Cemetery Hill.
