South Cavalry Field
Most of the Union left flank, on the third day, was guarded by over 3,000 cavalry. Most of their position is now in private hands expect for the small strip of land in the photographs, which is owned by the park service. One of the brigades was commanded by Brig Gen Elon Farnsworth. After Picketts retreat, Farnsworth was ordered on an ill fated attack on the rebel right flank. It was the last major action of the Battle of Gettysburg.
