Willoughby Run

The Willoughby Run gallery includes the Confederate approach from the west towards the Union positions in McPherson Woods and Ridge.  The area was developed as the Gettysburg Country Club, but after it went bankrupt it was purchased by the National Park Service and part of it is slated for restoration.  In the morning, Archer’s Brigade crossed the creek under fire from Buford’s cavalry, but as they moved up the hill beyond they were overwhelmed by the First Corps’ Iron Brigade and forced to retreat.  In the afternoon, a massed confederate attack was more successful in overwhelming the Union position.
